I DON'T HAVE INTERNET AT HOME. DOES THE DISTRICT OFFER RESOURCES TO HELP STUDENTS ACCESS WI-FI FROM HOME?
Yes. The Elmwood Park Public Schools offers two options to receive free Wi-Fi for families that cannot afford internet at home.
Option 1 Optimum Wi-Fi: Elmwood Park Public Schools has partnered with Optimum to provide student devices free access to the Optimum Wi-Fi network. This program is specifically for those who do not have Wi-Fi in their household and is 100% free for students. Optimum Wi-Fi is available in many business and residential areas. More details can be found in their coverage map. Only district-issued devices are eligible for this program.
Parents/Guardians can apply by using this Google Form. A representative from the EPPS Office of Information Technology will respond within 24-48 hours.
Option 2 Affordable Connectivity Program: You may be eligible to receive free broadband internet connectivity for your entire household via the FCC Affordable Connectivity Program. This program is available to new and current Optimum customers. This is beneficial if households 1: Don't have good coverage by Optimum Wi-Fi or 2: Need internet for every device in their home in addition to student devices.

CAN I USE MY OWN DEVICE INSTEAD OF THE DISTRICT-ISSUED ONE?
No. It is mandatory that students use their district-issued devices. A 1:1 learning program is successful when everyone works from an identical platform with identical software. This gives teachers the confidence to develop lessons they know will work for everyone.
WHAT ARE THE HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SPECIFICS OF THE 1:1 DEVICES?
We use Chromebooks as the device of choice for the 1:1 program. These machines offer long battery life in a light chassis with a small footprint. They are very portable and fit easily on student desks. Chromebooks function on the district's Google Workspace Domain, where teachers and students work and collaborate.
HOW SHOULD I KEEP MY CHROMEBOOK SECURE?
Do not leave your device unattended or stored in an unsure location like an unlocked classroom, in the car overnight, or in a public area like a coffee shop. Always store your device in a dry, cool, and secure area.
WILL THE DEVICE HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO LAST THROUGHOUT THE DAY?
Yes. Chromebooks have long battery life. Students are required to charge their chromebooks every night before school so they arrive ready for learning throughout the entire school day.
WILL I BE ABLE TO PRINT FROM MY CHROMEBOOK IN SCHOOL?
Although the district continues to strive towards a paperless, digital environment, it is recognized that students will sometimes want to print their work. To accommodate chromebook printing, the Media Center copier can be used as a secure printer. Students will use their student login in order to access their print jobs. Printing instructions can be found in the Student Technology Handbook in the resources section of this website. Chromebooks will not be able to print anywhere else in the school.
BECAUSE THIS IS A DISTRICT DEVICE, DOES THAT MEAN THE DISTRICT IS MONITORING ITS USE AT HOME?
Yes. All Internet activity is monitored, both in school and out, at all times. The device is meant for schoolwork only, and should always be used in accordance with Board policies. Only the student's @students.epps.org username should ever be used to log in.
CAN I TAKE MY CHROMEBOOK HOME AND CAN I LET FAMILY/FRIENDS USE IT?
Students are encouraged to take their chromebooks home for completing homework and other related school work outside of school hours. However, only the student assigned to that chromebook should use the chromebook. Most accidents are the result of someone else using the chromebook.
AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS DONE TO MY CHROMEBOOK?
Students are encouraged to take good care of their Chromebook. Damage due to accidents, loss, neglect, or abuse has an associated fine.
